    Asphalt Shingle Roof

Your home’s roof is one of the most complicated pieces of engineering on your home. It offers your home essential protection against the elements, as well as curb appeal & resale value, and insulation! Considering how important your roof is to the health of your home, it is essential that you keep the system in good repair! However, your roof is also complex, and there are a variety of issues that can arise with the system, which means it is essential to be well-informed about any potential issues. That’s why our team put together a roofing FAQ to help answer some of your most common questions! Take a look below to learn more!

Can I Repair or Should I Replace?

Perhaps the most commonly asked roofing question is whether you can repair or replace your asphalt roof. The answer is entirely dependent on the current condition of the roof, and you will likely need a professional to assess the system and determine the answer to this question.

However, there are a few questions you can ask yourself to identify whether your home’s roof is beyond repair. Are your shingles broken or missing? If you have sections of damaged or missing shingles, you will need to have the roof replaced, as the damage will only continue to grow. If the damage is localized to one specific area of the roof you may be able to get away with repairing the damage, but it’s best to consult a professional.

What about your granules? Are you finding them in your gutter system and yard? This is another sign that your shingles are nearing the end of their lifespan. While you may be able to get away with repairing a few shingles and getting a few more years out of your roof, if your shingles are losing granules, you will need to have them replaced!

How Long Does An Asphalt Roof Last

This question depends on the quality of the initial installation, as well as the shingles themselves. If you elect to use budget shingles, then you can reasonably expect to get 15-20 years out of the installation. However, if you decide to install a more expensive line of shingles, you can conceivably get 30-40 years out of your roof if you maintain it properly.
