Broken Gutter System

Your gutters are one of the single most important pieces of your home’s roofing system. They offer a number of benefits for your home, including their principal function which is to route water away from your roof, siding, and foundation. However, they also offer a few other benefits, including boosting your home’s curb appeal and resale value. With so much to gain from having well-maintained gutters, it is essential to ensure that your home’s gutters are kept in good repair! If you’re interested in learning more about the signs that your gutters need to be replaced that you may have missed, take a look at our blog for more information!

Broken Fasteners

The first sign that your gutter system is on the verge of replacement is when you notice that the fasteners are beginning to fail. Your fasteners are what holds your gutter system together, which means that when they begin to rust and fall off of the system, your gutters will no longer be watertight. If you’re trying to prevent water from leaking out of your gutter system, be sure to repair any broken fasteners that you see!

Damaged Gutters

When it comes to damage, it can appear in a variety of ways. Your gutter system could have experience blunt force damage from a falling tree branch, which could crack the system. The system also could have rusted over time, which can lead to cracks in the system. This kind of damage will be obvious and easy to identify, but some signs are more subtle.

Sagging Gutters

Another sign that your gutter system is failing is when you notice that the system is sagging away from your roof. While your gutter fasteners can cause specific sections of your system to pull away from your roof, they can also loosen from your roof itself, causing the entire system to sag away, particularly when it’s full of water and debris. Eventually, the system could fall off the home entirely, causing damage on the way down. If you notice your gutter system sagging, have it repaired as soon as possible!

Loose Nails & Screws

Lastly, if you notice that there are nails and screws beneath the gutter system, that can also be perceieved as a sign that the system failing, just as with your fasteners. Be sure to have the system examined and repaired by a professional as soon as possible!
